Supermalar - SUPER MALAyalam wRiter - Bilingual (Malayalam/ English ) Word-processor under MS DOS

This bilingual word-processor software was release in 1991 October 10, during the era of MS DOS operating system. The most amazing thing about this software is, only a 4MHz, 8086CPU based computer is enough for Malayalam Word-processing !!!. Still most of the "Thoolika" DTP users are using this MS DOS based software as a Malayalam character input tool because of the simplicity and speed of this software. For the convenience of the DTP users we had made some changes in the software and renamed SuperMalar to "Thoolika under DOS".

Around 1994 we renamed Supermalar the bilingual (Malayalam/ English) word processor to Thoolika under DOS editor. Many of the publishing houses used this as a use full handy tool to edit Malayalam, and then they exported it to PageMaker for page layout. Security update blocks active content in CHM files to protect your system security.

Solution: Run Windows Explorer, right-click on the CHM file, and select Properties from the popup menu. Click on the Unblock button immediately below the Advanced button on the General page. Click Apply to show the content. Once the CHM file has been unblocked, the Unblock button disappears.

This MS DOS based Malayalam English word processor can be downloaded from here (SuperMalar.zip). The files TECGA.EXE, TEHGA.EXE and TEVGA.EXE are the main executable files. TECGA is for Colour Graphics Adapter based displays and TEHGA is for Hercules Graphics Adapter based display Cards and TEVGA is for Video Graphics Adapter based display cards. CGA and HGA display card based computers are not available in the market at present. Now a day computers are VGA based display based. Hence you use the TEVGA.EXE executable.

Present computers would not directly support this MS DOS based application. Download DOSBOX emulator an add-on that which supports old MS DOS based applications. It can be downloaded from  here (DOSBOX)
